Overview
In 2026, Foothills County completed a 39 kW solar photovoltaic project at the Scott Seaman Sports Rink. Funded by the Government of Alberta through the Municipal Electricity Generation Program delivered by MCCAC, this project was a part of a larger project to improve energy efficiency and onsite electricity generation at the recreation centre.
Approach
The 39 kW project was installed on the roof of the building with a ballasting system and consisted of 65 solar modules. The project was installed by Evolvsolar and Foothills County also received funding support from the Government of Canada’s Green and Inclusive Community Building (GICB) program.
Results
The solar system is expected to produce about 42,225 kWh of clean electricity each year. This will reduce the County’s electricity costs by an estimated $5,500 annually and lower greenhouse gas emissions by an estimated 20.7 tonnes of CO₂e per year.
