Overview
In 2026, the Town of Legal completed a 150 kW solar photovoltaic project at the SVF Sports Centre. Funded by the Government of Alberta through the Municipal Electricity Generation Program delivered by MCCAC, this project was a part of a larger project to improve energy efficiency at the recreation centre.
Approach
The 150 kW project was installed on the roof of the building with a ballasting system and consisted of 243 solar modules. The project was installed by SkyFire Energy and focused on practical, cost‑effective action to reduce energy use and emissions.
Results
The solar system is expected to produce about 150,660 kWh of clean electricity each year. This will reduce the Town’s electricity costs by roughly $29,312 annually and lower greenhouse gas emissions by an estimated 75.4 tonnes of CO₂e per year. The project is expected to reduce facility-wide GHG emissions by 36% annually.
