OVERVIEW

As part of the Action Centre’s Recreation Energy Conservation Program, the Town of Bassano completed an LED lighting retrofit throughout the Bassano Recreation Complex and Joint Use Facility/Arena.

The project was undertaken to decrease energy costs and improve the sustainability of the facility. The LED retrofit will improve the overall appearance of the facility and create a more inviting space for groups and visitors.

This project was funded by the Government of Alberta.

APPROACH

The lightning retrofit project included the replacement of 172 T8 fluorescent lights with 181 LED troffers. The new LED lights will provide higher lumen levels at a lower wattage, therefore reducing the electricity consumption of the recreation complex.

RESULTS

The lighting retrofit results in a reduction of 6 tCO2/year, and an annual energy cost savings of $10,878/year thus decreasing the overall electricity costs. The retrofit is great step by the Town in promoting energy efficiency and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

“As a part of Bassano’s Recreation and Leisure Master plan, our goal is to reduce facility operating costs for the Town and the volunteer boards managing our facilities. The MCCAC Recreation Energy Conservation Grant has helped the Town achieve this goal.”
