OVERVIEW
As part of the Action Centre’s Recreation Energy Conservation Program, the Town of St. Paul completed an LED lighting retrofit throughout the St. Paul Cap Arena. The 24,220 square foot arena includes a skating rink, change rooms, concession area, and lobby. The project was commissioned in September 2021.
APPROACH
The arena lighting retrofit project included the replacement of 40 T5s and 87 T8s, with 40 new LED highbays and 87 troffers and linear fixtures. The LED lamps will provide higher lumen levels at a much lower wattage, thereby reducing the electricity consumption of lighting equipment under the system boundary.
RESULTS
The lighting retrofit resulted in a reduction of 8 tCO2/year and an annual energy cost savings of $901.46. There is a 32% GHG reduction from the existing system and a 5% reduction facility-wide from the baseline.
“The Town of St. Paul is pleased to be a recipient of the Recreation Energy Conservation Program grant through MCCAC and is excited to upgrade the Lighting at the CAP Arena. The REC Grant has allowed us to replace all of our lights to clean and bright LED lights. This project represents one of the ways that the Town of St. Paul is doing to reduce energy consumption and operating costs. It’s been a great project for the Town of St. Paul.”
