Alberta’s small and rural municipalities are the heart of our province and play an important role in its economic development, culture, and history. While they are bustling with potential, these communities often struggle with the resources and staffing needed for effective energy management and energy efficiency.
The Roving Energy Manager program offers free energy management services and funding for project implementation to support these communities in navigating the complex energy efficiency landscape. This service offers municipalities the opportunity to learn how energy management can improve municipal operations, reduce utility costs and build the internal capacity needed to identify and implement future energy projects.
The Municipal Climate Change Action Centre is excited to share that four communities will participate in the 2024 cohort of the Roving Energy Manager program.
- Village of Carmangay
- Village of Clyde
- Lac Ste. Anne County
- Town of Onoway
Over the next nine months, these municipalities will receive support to:
- Complete a scoping activity to create a customized energy planning approach.
- Identify, collect, and enter energy consumption data.
- Develop an energy consumption inventory.
- Identify energy management opportunities for municipal operations via site visits to communities or virtual audit options.
- Create energy management plan recommendations for their municipality, including a list of priorities and suggestions of key plan elements.
- Provide access to energy efficiency software and measurement tools.
- Receive advice on project implementation and guidance on applications, proposals
To help municipalities implement their energy management plans, participating municipalities are also eligible for up to $10,000 in grant funding to support energy efficiency projects.
The Roving Energy Manager program is designed to create significant impact in Alberta’s small and rural municipalities, helping them overcome the barriers of staffing and resource limitations. By building an organization-wide understanding of energy management, improving data collection and storage methods, and networking with other municipalities to share best practices, this opportunity is paving the way for a more energy-efficient future across Alberta. This program is administered by the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre and funded by the Government of Alberta.
We look forward in delivering a successful offering of our first cohort. There may be opportunities for future cohorts. To stay aware of application opportunities, please subscribe to the MCCAC newsletter, The Current Climate.
