The Municipal Climate Change Action Centre is extending two crucial deadlines, giving you an extra month to apply for our Community Energy Conservation program and Municipal Electricity Generation program!
The new deadline for applications is April 30, 2026.
We have still been receiving a lot of interest in these programs, combined with a worry that you won’t have time to get a complete application to us by our previous deadline of March 31. That’s why we’re moving the deadline to April 30—we want everyone who has expressed interest to be able to access this funding.
Community Energy Conservation Program
The Community Energy Conservation (CEC) program provides financial rebates up to $500,000 (up to 50% of pre-GST project costs) to municipalities to fund retrofits in a variety of municipally owned facilities. The deadline for applications has been extended to April 30.

Want an idea of what the CEC can do for you?
The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo used a $262,000 rebate to help pay for a $436,000 transformative lighting retrofit at the Vista Ridge All Seasons Park ski hill.
The Town of Whitecourt used a $192,100 rebate to help offset the $384,200 cost of a roof replacement and the installation of a new REALice system at JDA Place. With the new insulation and more efficient ice making, this investment will save them $19,700 per year in utilities costs.

Municipal Electricity Generation Program
The Municipal Electricity Generation (MEG) program provides financial rebates to Alberta municipalities to install grid-connected electricity generation systems on municipally owned facilities or land. Projects can receive per-watt rebates up to $500,000. The deadline for applications has been extended to April 30 for projects smaller than 150 kilowatts. There is no deadline extension for larger projects.

Want an idea of what the MEG can do for you?
The Town of Okotoks accessed the MEG twice, for rebates of $57,300 to install a solar PV system on Fire Hall 1 and $74,600 for a solar PV system on their Operations Centre. Together, these two projects will save the Town almost $18,000 per year in utilities costs.
The City of Spruce Grove completed the Protective Services solar PV system supported by an $85,000 rebate through the MEG. They’re now saving $18,900 per year in utilities costs.
