OVERVIEW

As part of the Electric Vehicles for Municipalities program the City of Lethbridge have acquired an electric Polaris Ranger as well as a Chevrolet Bolt. The two EVs will be used for a variety of purposes at the Waste & Recycling Centre.

This project was funded by the Government of Alberta.

APPROACH

The two new EVs will eventually replace existing gasoline counterparts which are nearing the end of their service lives. Through the EVM Program the City received roughly $26,000 to support the purchase of the new vehicles.

RESULTS

The new Ranger and Bolt will:

  • Have lower annual fuel costs.
  • Have lower annual maintenance costs.
  • Be quitter to operate.
  • Produce less GHG emissions.
  • Will help reduce the City’s overall environmental impact.

We are excited to participate in the reduction of tailpipe greenhouse gas emissions and help improve air quality within the airshed

Mandi Parker, Waste & Environment General Manager

Adding Electric Vehicles will reduce our consumption of fossil fuels, reduce or eliminate some of the maintenance requirements associated with internal combustion fueled vehicles and allow the City to continue to reduce environmental impacts associated with greenhouse gas emissions
