OVERVIEW
As part of the Electric Vehicle Charging Program (EVCP), the Town of Bon Accord now has six new level 2 EV charging stations, and a new level 3 EV charging station. The Town received a $140,709 rebate to cover all costs associated with the project. The 7 new chargers are located at two locations in Town:
- Bon Accord Town Office
- Three level 2 Siemens chargers – Three plugs total
- Bon Accord Arena
- Three level 2 Siemens chargers – Three plugs total
- One level 3 Tritium charger – Two plugs total
The six level 2 chargers are able to charge an EV from near empty to 100% battery capacity depending on the vehicle in 8-10 hours, while the level 3 charger is able to charge an EV from 20% to 80% in 30-40 minutes. The level 2 stations are free to use, while the level 3 station has a fee per use.
The design and installation of the project was completed by Dandelion Renewables.
This project was funded by the Government of Alberta and Natural Resources Canada.
APPROACH
The seven new chargers are a valuable addition to the Town and will make traveling to and through Bon Accord with an EV significantly easier. The Town hopes that the addition of these chargers will help accelerate the addition of EVs in the area.
The addition of these chargers’ show’s a meaningful step by the Town of Bon Accord in reducing GHG emission and promoting a greener and more sustainable future.
We are proud to lead the “CHARGE”. Kudos to our Town’s staff and Dandelion Renewables for their tireless effort to obtain grants and to gather all the required information to present to Council. It was an easy decision, seven charging stations installed at no cost to our residents. Many of our rate payers want to see their municipality accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles, including the installation of electric vehicle chargers. Congratulations to all for working to keep our Town in the forefront with its green initiatives!
